It is one of the most common stories we hear in Scarborough: “I got treatment. It felt better. Two weeks later it was back.” If that is you, nothing is wrong with you — and your treatment probably was not bad either. You are just stuck in a loop that feeling-based care cannot break.
The loop
- Something in your body stops working well — a hip stops moving, a muscle stops firing, a joint gets stuck.
- Other parts work overtime to cover for it. They get tight, overloaded, and eventually painful.
- You get the painful spot treated. It calms down. Relief is real.
- But the original problem — the part not doing its job — is still there. So the overload returns, and so does the pain.
Why the sore spot is the wrong target
Pain shows up where the overload lands, not where the problem lives. Your shoulder can hurt because your upper back stopped rotating. Your back can hurt because your hips stopped bending. Treat the shoulder or the back all year — the cause never moves.
How to break the loop
Find the part that is not doing its job, and make it work again. That takes testing, not guessing: strength tests, joint-by-joint checks, watching how you actually move. Then targeted exercise to restore what was missing — and re-testing to prove it changed.
That is the entire method behind our clinic. Not because passive treatments are bad — they are often the reason people can start exercising at all — but because lasting change comes from changing how the body works.
If your pain keeps coming back, stop asking “what makes it feel better?” and start asking “what is making it come back?” That second question is the one worth paying to answer.
